On Monday, April 4 2016, the jury selection began for the trial of James Dixon, the 25-year-old man who was accused of manslaughter and assault in the 2013 murder of Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old black transgender woman.
Protesters gathered outside the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Monday in opposition of the paper’s coverage of events happening in Ferguson. The activists stood outside the building dressed as old-time newsies and passed out mock-up papers yelling, “Extra, extra. Read all about it. Post-Dispatch changes its name to Post-Disgrace.”
Rapper/activist Talib Kweli is one of the few celebrities who traveled to Ferguson, Missouri to be at the forefront of the movement for justice after the death of Michael Brown. He recently spoke to CNN’s Don Lemon, and things got pretty heated.Â
 The University of Illinois’ Board of Trustees voted to add ‘Gender Confirmation Surgery’ to student health insurance. The vote, which landed with 8 out of 9 in favor of the addition, means that transgender students would be allowed to undergo sexual reassignment surgery, and be covered under the student health plan.
