According to a U.S. News & World Report ranking on the nation’s top 10 high schools, five Chicago Public High Schools have claimed spots on the state’s top 10 list.

    African American children are more likely to attend high-poverty schools than their white counterparts, according to a study released by the Urban Institute. The study also found that blacks of all socioeconomic classes live in higher-poverty neighborhoods than whites of similar income.

  Oakland’s school district has reduced the number of suspensions of black students in the last three years, but they are still being removed from the classroom at a much higher rate than their white peers. The findings come courtesy of a yearly report to the civil rights office of the U.S. Department of Education. 

According to a report released by the Chicago Public Schools, privately run charter schools expel students at higher rates than other institutions of learning in the district.
