    Members of a California high school basketball team were barred from participating in a tournament because they continued to wear “I can’t breathe” T-shirts in solidarity with those standing up against police brutality. The students have planned a rally in response to the decision for Monday. 

  An Illinois woman is seeking to trademark the last words of a dying New York City man who was killed during an encounter with police. 43-year-old Eric Garner died when an NYPD officer placed him an illegal chokehold during detainment. His last words were, “I can’t breathe.”

      It started with Derrick Rose donning a shirt with the caption, “I can’t breathe” in support of Eric Garner protesters. Then other NBA players followed suit. Among them? Kobe Bryant.  But a white reporter feel that Bryant isn’t “hood enough” to sympathize with the plight of the average black person.
