  Teens in Chicago’s After School Matters program will get a boost from the NBA’s Derrick Rose. The MVP and three-time Chicago Bulls All-Star is donating $1 million to the Chicago-based non-profit organization which is devoted to providing “innovative out-of-school programs for teenagers.”

    Dozens of Chicago Public School students rallied downtown Monday to demand an elected board of education. More than 200 students are part of the Chicago Students Union, which was formed in 2013. But students say the board refuses to listen to them. 

The U.S. Department of Education has launched an official investigation into alleged discrimination taking place at two public schools located on Chicago’s South Side. Course offerings at Dyett High and Mollison Elementary have been slashed to the point where physical education classes are only available online. 

  Hundreds of mostly poor students of color will be sent back to their home districts next school year. The students used  controversial Missouri law to transfer out of the failing schools, to enter better schools in predominately white neighborhoods.
