Trump admin releases propaganda filled report about Socialism that only shows they don’t understand anything
The Trump administration released a report early Tuesday morning entitled “The Opportunity Costs of Socialism” which attempted to establish that Socialism as a terrible idea, but makes a concession that modern Socialists “denounce state brutality and would allow individuals to privately own the means of production in many industries.” The document is confusing and ultimately […]
Jair Bolsonaro sworn in as Brazil’s President, increasing the number of far-right demagogues globally
Brazil has just sworn in its newest president, the far-right demagogue Jair Bolsonaro, who has promised to free Brazil of leftist “ideology.” The ex-army captain ran on a platform that stressed an anti-corruption and pro-gun agenda, which served to energize Brazil’s conservative wing following four consecutive wins from the left’s Worker’s Party, much like Donald […]
Ocasio-Cortez says all Americans should have healthcare like she gets as a congresswoman in latest call for Medicare for All
According to Newsweek, newly elected Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently criticized the way that the American healthcare system works against working class people, remarking that her healthcare coverage when she was a waitress required her to pay twice the amount she currently pays as a United States Congress member. According to a Harris poll, her proposed […]
What do we need for a new freedom?: A proudly fat, disabled, bisexual enby’s vision for #Juneteenth
By Denarii Grace Some days I wonder if the work that I do is worth it. On the surface, Black artists/cultural workers, healers, teachers and activists who live most on the margins have the least to gain in their lines of work. And in a society based on the allure of social and financial capital, […]
Assassination of anti-police brutality activist and politician shakes Brazil
Rio city councilor and outspoken anti-police brutality activist Marielle Franco was shot dead in what Brazilian authorities are calling a targeted assassination Wednesday night. Franco had become a voice for the repressed, representing those in the poor favelas who were often cracked down on by authorities. Head of Rio’s public security Richard Nunes promised “a full […]
Liberation is a 3-step process: Broadening activism’s scope in the wake of the Movement for Black Lives
Contrary to popular belief, the Movement for Black Lives is not solely about police brutality. Bigger than body cameras and electoral politics, the Movement is about Black liberation and freedom for all Black people. Liberation and freedom are unconventional in the sense that the system under which society currently operates makes those two realities impossible. […]
Yes, Black liberals commodify Black Lives Matter too and it’s a major problem
By Blake Simons The present day Movement for Black Lives, which I argue was revived by the people of Oakland after the murder of Oscar Grant, and came into fruition because of the rebellion that working class Black folks started in Ferguson after the murder of Mike Brown, has been co-opted by Black capitalistic neo-liberals.
The Complexities of Revolution We Can Learn from Fidel Castro
On Friday, the world learned that Fidel Castro, at 90 years old, had died. Over the days since, I have learned more about both the revolutionary and the tyrant than I did in school. Honestly, I have more questions than answers. I am by no means an expert on Fidel Castro or the longstanding political conditions […]

W.E.B. Du Bois wouldn’t vote in 1956. Now, 60 years later, his reasons still matter
W.E.B. Du Bois was a prolific Black scholar and educator. He was also a writer whose critiques of American democracy and racial inequality in this country have resonated with every generation since each of his published works appeared for mass consumption. Now, faced with an election where many young people are asking themselves, “Should I […]
Movement for Black Lives Yields New Targets of the State
By Lamont Lilly During the height of the Ferguson Rebellion in late summer 2014, youth organizer, Joshua Williams quickly rose to the call of duty. In the aftermath of Officer Darren Wilson’s brutal murder of unarmed Black teenager, Mike Brown, 19-year-old Williams, stepped forward in the most dedicated and courageous way possible – on the front […]
Black Twitter Hilariously Responds To Clinton’s Nomination With #GirlIGuessImWithHer
By: Chaya Crowder For me, this presidential election season has been characterized by apathy. As a political scientist, I have been grappling with Paul Frymer’s notion of “electoral capture,” the idea that Black people as a whole essentially have no choice but to vote for the Democratic nominee. Perhaps Black Twitter best summed this up with the […]
