Following the epic success of Moonlight both in the box office and on the awards circuit. The biggest question would be what’s next for those involved? Director Barry Jenkins in particular? Deadline reports that Jenkins will be partnering with Plan B productions to bring Colson Whitehead’s best-selling novel, The Underground Railroad, to Amazon as a series. 

Australian actress Jessica De Gouw recently spoke to Digital Spy about the now cancelled, critically-acclaimed and commercially successful series Underground. De Gouw portrayed Elizabeth Hawkes, an abolitionist socialite who had to figure out how to navigate those worlds and ultimately leverage her social positioning to advocate for and get involved in freeing slaves.

WGN America struck gold earlier this year when they premiered Underground, a drama set in the American South prior to the Civil War as it follows runaway slaves called the Macon 7 attempting to flee north. 

WGN America’s Underground is a critical series that has brought in millions of viewers on a weekly basis as it tells the story of a group of slaves utilizing the Underground Railroad to reach freedom. So it was only a matter of time before viewers got to meet the conductor of the railroad, Harriet Tubman. 

WGN America announced on Monday that they had renewed its hit show Underground for a second season.

Underground is a new period drama that follows a group of runaway slaves as they use the Underground Railroad to reach freedom. The 10-episode series plays on WGN America and is executive produced by John Legend, who recently spoke about what he wants the series to accomplish during an interview with AOL.
