I doubt Mitt Romney understands the plight of the underprivileged. And I couldn’t tell you if he likes Black people, either. But if he’s a Hip Hop fan, I bet he’ll love Watch The Throne. Because Mitt Romney and Jay-Z actually have a lot in common.

This aint a Jay Z, Kanye or “Watch the Throne” hate post. I’m listening to the album right now and it’s pretty good. But while we’re caught in the hype of 2 of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars coming together and all the #WTT tweets and reviews, it’s a lot more important stuff going on the world […]

This essay contains spoilers for HBO’s Game of Thrones and mentions rape. We have finally reached the moment when the war between the Night King’s army of the dead and the Westerosi resistance begins, the cataclysmic event to which 8 seasons of one of the most groundbreaking television series have been leading up. Along the […]

Honestly I had reservations about posting “Bushes” (Bomb the Throne). I knew a million rappers had already done freestyles over the “Otis” instrumental, and with the release of Jay and Kanye’s Watch the Throne I thought I may have been too late. I also wasn’t sure if people wanted to revisit the Bushes and their […]

If you ask me, this needs to happen. Just compare the aesthetic of Watch The Throne with the sound of Tha Carter IV. It’s opulence vs. simplicity. Grand statements vs. stream-of-conscience flow. The seasoned veteran vs. the ambitious youngster. A Young Money vs. Roc Nation battle would perfectly capture a growing generational gap within the Hip Hop community.

“Otis” is shallow, materialistic, wealth-worshiping nonsense. And if this “luxury rap” style is going to define Watch The Throne, Yeezy and Jigga might reemerge from their luxurious, million-dollar mansions in the sky to find themselves irrelevant to a culture founded on its ability to resonate with the common man.

Right so, according to my Facebook page and Twitter account, Tyler Perry and Oprah (aka Madea and Miss Sophia) tried to get all Watch the Throne on us and collabo on some crappy TV shows. Essentially, Tyler created a couple of shows for his BFF’s fledgling network, a bunch of people watched them and concluded […]

Gwyneth Paltrow’s little foray into the touchy words lexicon is not the latest instance for public discussion about the word nigga/nigger. In case you missed it, last week Paltrow tweeted a picture of herself and friends live from Jigga and Kanye’s Watch the Throne Tour Paris stop along with the message, “Ni**as [because the G’s carry all […]

Nas’ music video for “Nasty” is a statement about what really matters: family, community, humility and respect. The money? ….A welcome bonus. Check out Nas’ “Nasty” music video at BlackYouthProject.com!

Who knows; after actually witnessing public sentiment firsthand, maybe he’ll do a bit less of the shameless name-checking of every exotic, exclusive, uber-expensive name brand he can think of.

What say you, readers? Is Kanye’s appearance at @OccupyWallSt. a sign of it’s growing power…or its overexposure?

September 7, 2011 Idiotic Senator Joe Walsh has apologized for calling President Obama “idiotic”. He then somehow both downplayed and stood behind statements he made earlier this year asserting that President Obama was only elected because he’s black. Without question, Barack Obama has got to be the most disrespected President of all time. I wonder […]

The Price of Presence: Notes From Atlanta’s Strip Economy Notes From An Urban Feminist A year ago I landed in Atlanta, Georgia without my three children, my husband or community. I arrived with four luggages in tow, and although I considered myself a fully realized feminist whose identity could stand alone, I felt like something […]
