Jamil Boldian, Krishaun Branch and Rayvaughn Hines are among Urban Prep High School’s first graduating class to receive college degrees. The all-male charter school is housed in Chicago’s Englewood community.Â
After mounting pressure from the NBA, the league’s players and the public, Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has agreed to sell his team. The announcement came via Sterling’s attorney Maxwell Blecher Wednesday evening.Â
Miami Heat star LeBron James and other players are threatening to boycott the NBA if Sterling remains owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. According to Roger Mason Jr., the NBA Player’s Association president, James and other athletes say they aren’t setting foot on the court next year if Donald Sterling isn’t removed.Â
Yesterday, Ras Baraka claimed the mayoral seat of Newark, NJ. Baraka, a councilman and activist, beat law professor Shavar Jeffries for the seat left vacant by Cory Booker, who is now a senator in Washington. Baraka won 54% of the vote.
Morris Brown College has been struggling to keep its doors open. Serving just 35 students, the HBCU has seen much better days. Now, the City of Atlanta where the college is housed, along with Friendship Baptist Church, put in a joint proposal worth $12.6 million to purchase the land.Â
