Back in June, the U.S. Supreme Court faced an issue that it has decided on countless times. Affirmative Action and whether or not colleges and universities should consider a person’s race when admitting them. Six years ago, Abigail Fisher filed a lawsuit arguing that she was rejected from the university because it favored minorities.

The nation’s first voter ID law came from a three-judge panel of the 7th Circuit in Indiana. The law was integrated into American politics in 2007, despite opposition from Democrats and the American Civil Liberties Union. One of the judges regrets it.

The Supreme Court is currently evaluating the University of Michigan’s current ban on affirmative action, and most of the justices appear to agree that it should be upheld. Several of them expressed doubts that the constitutional amendment violates minorities’ equal protection rights.

  The University of Michigan has seen a decline in black student enrollment since discontinuing their affirmative action program. Black enrollment is down 30 percent at undergraduate and law schools. 

In addition to a major challenge to the U. of Texas race-conscious admissions process, the Supreme Court has added another affirmative action case to its agenda. The new case addresses a Michigan ballot measure that banned race-conscious admissions
