Today marks the moment in my society that I am officially considered a man. This marks the day that I can buy alcohol (even though I don’t drink), rent a car (from off brand companies like “rent-a-wreck”) and go to clubs in Chicago (regardless if I would rather just chill at home with my partner).  […]

As a young black girl like most children I told lies. I told big lies. I told small lies. I told white lies. I told lies. And, even had the audacity to argue with my “all seeing all knowing” do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do black grandmother about the usage of lie over her usage of “telling a story.” What […]

The election of America’s first Black President in 2008 ushered in what many believed to be a post-racial America. A country historically embittered by racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia could finally boast a grand success in the realm of identity politics. On the fateful night of November 4, 2008 the United States of America seemingly […]

Let me start by apologizing for my absence last week. I know people say this all the time but there is just so much going on in my head/heart that I almost can’t tell up from down. I could get personal and write about the emotional toll my ailing grandmother is having on me. I […]

Lately, I’ve found it exceedingly difficult to blog.  To be sure, it’s not because I lack the desire to write and make you privy to my mental awesomeness each Monday morning, but rather because I’ve essentially checked out of the blogging world.  I wish I could blame it on my dissertation.  (It’s coming along.  Not […]
