  The re-trial for Marissa Alexander has been delayed until December 1. Alexander’s trial was set to begin on July 28, however the state of Florida is currently waiting to hear from Governor Rick Scott. Alexander was released after a court overturned her conviction.

Florida State Attorney Angela Corey’s office announced that they will seek a sentence that is triple that of what was originally handed to a woman who fired a warning shot in self defense. Marissa Alexander could face a 60-year prison sentence in her retrial this summer. 

Attorneys representing Marissa Alexander got their wish granted when a judge ruled in favor of their request to have her trial rescheduled for July 28th. Alexander’s attorney Bruce Zimet said the initial trial date of March 31st was too soon for adequate preparation.
