Over the weekend – Saturday, to be exact – the Cincinnati Zoo shot and killed a western lowland gorilla after a 4-year-old boy slipped into the animal’s enclosure. The 17-year old, 400-pound gorilla, Harambe carried the boy around its space for about 10 minutes, and the zoo’s dangerous animal response team considered a life-threatening situation.

The outrage has only increased for Principal Minerva Zanca, who’s accused of targeting and forcing out the only black teacher’s at Pan American International High School in NYC, calling them “gorillas,” and making derogatory comments about their “big lips” and “nappy hair.”

Home Depot apologized for a racist tweet sent from its Twitter account Thursday. The tweet was part of the company’s “College Gameday” coverage on ESPN. The tweet featured two African-American drummers with a drummer wearing a gorilla mask in between them.

The internet has erupted with a new hashtag “dedicated” the black girls and women. The problem is that it is incredibly racist and offensive to some. #StopBlackGirls2013 polluted Twitter this week with various photos of Black women compared to anything from gorillas to farm animals.

A petition has been launched demanding the ousting of NYC Principal Minerva Zanca, who is accused of firing a group of black teachers, and calling them “big lipped,” “nappy haired,” and “gorillas.”
