Chicago Reaches 500 Homicides in 2012
Chicago has officially reached 500 homicides in 2012, after a fatal shooting on the city’s West Side yesterday.
The shooting happened just a few hours after the CPD announced the city was one murder away from reaching the horrific figure.
The last time Chicago logged 500 homicides was in 2008. Last year, the city had 435.
Police say Nathaniel Jackson was found on the sidewalk outside a convenience store with a gunshot wound to the head late Thursday.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office says Jackson was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital early Friday.
Jackson’s death remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.
Although this news happened in his hometown, President Obama has not addressed the issue, nor has the NRA called a press conference.
How can we make sure than any governmental gun control initiatives include protecting and valuing the lives of people of color, especially youth?
