Reflections on Martin Luther King Jr., and a Message to Black Youth
Check out an excerpt from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s final speech, in Memphis, Tennessee on April 3rd, 1968 below.
He was assassinated the very next day.
As we approach the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday this coming Monday, remember that one of the greatest gifts Dr. King gave to the world was hope; the courage to believe that better, brighter days lay ahead for the faithful and committed.
In spite of the difficult times our community and country are currently facing, we urge you to be inspired by his courage, intelligence and commitment to peace and justice for all people. Dr. King was a great man, but the movement he championed was nothing without the resilience and bravery of everyday people like you and I.
There is still so much work to be done. But the changes we want to see in the world must firstly begin within our hearts and minds.
Be inspired by his legacy, but don’t be afraid of the power you possess to change our world for the better.
