Man ordered to serve jail time despite paying child support debt
A Texas man who has paid his back child support debt in full has been sentenced to jail.
Clifford Hall says when the amount of child support for his 11-year-old son was modified, no one told him.
“I discovered for some reason his employer was withholding a large amount some weeks a small amount some weeks a zero amount some weeks,” says Hall’s attorney Tyesha Elam. So Hall quickly paid almost 3 grand in back child support.
When Hall and his ex appeared in court last November he owed nothing. But the attorney representing Hall’s ex wanted him to pay three grand in attorney fees and the judge agreed.
Court documents also revealed Hall wasn’t following scheduled visitation times set by the court, another modification Hall says he knew nothing about.
The judge ended up sentencing Hall to six months in jail. He plans on appealing the ruling, but will turn himself in to begin serving his time in a few days.
