Newspaper under fire for offensive ’12 Years a Slave’ headlines
A central Illinois newspaper is under fire for its choice of words when announcing the big Oscar winner for Best Motion Picture.
The News-Gazette decided to play off of 12 Years a Slave’s title and write “12 Years a Slave” escapes with top Oscar” as its main headline.
The twittersphere was not amused.

The Denver Post also thought it was a good idea to play off the movie’s title:
