A mug shot of a California man arrested on felony weapons charges has gone viral on social media. Jeremy Meeks’ photo, posted to the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page, has more than 63,000 “likes” and it has very little to do with his offenses.

From San Jose Mercury News:

Jeremy Meeks, 30, a felon, was arrested Wednesday on five weapons charges and one gang charge, according to Officer Joseph Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department.

No previous arrest photo has garnered so much positive attention since the department set up the Facebook page in March 2012, Silva told The Associated Press.

“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” he said.

By early Friday, Meeks’ arrest photo had garnered more than 63,000 “likes” and over 18,000 comments. The comments consisted mostly of women praising the criminal for his “chiseled face”, “piercing blue eyes” and “gorgeous lips.”

Meeks was one of four men taken into custody during Operation Ceasefire, a mission to curb gun violence in the Weston Ranch area of Stockton, CA.

Four guns were confiscated during a sweep Wednesday involving the Stockton police gang unit, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Task Force and other agencies.

Meeks is currently being detained in lieu of $900,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon. A GoFundme campaignwas created in hopes of raising money for Meeks’ release.
