Yesterday was a huge night for Viola Davis. Her show “How to Get Away With Murder,” created by Thursday night dominator Shonda Rhimes, premiered and it was pretty much a huge hit.

But a tweet during the show’s premiere has offended many. Instead of praising Viola, or just commenting about the show in general, People Magazine took to its Twitter account to “mammify” Davis.

People execs apologized for the tweet after deleting it writing, “Apologies for the earlier tweet. We love HTGAWM & The Help, where that quote was from. But it was stupid & insensitive. Won’t happen again.”

Way to go People.

Why do you think it’s so hard for Viola to be recognized outside of traditional “slave-like” roles?
