Pastor embraces marriage equality

Pastor Jamie B. Frazier believes that church is supposed to be a safe, welcoming space for everyone. That’s why he started the Lighthouse Church of Chicago.

Located in the South Loop, the church promotes marriage equality, and preaches the message that marriage is a sacred covenant meant for all people with love in their hearts.

From Chicago Pride:

“I think of the stories of the people in my congregation who have said things like for the first time I see myself in the Bible, for the first time I feel like I’m actually at home, for the first time I’m in a spiritual place where I can feel like I can bring my full and total self to the room, for the first time I feel like I’m actually loved by God,” he said.

Obama to File Brief Urging Supreme Court to Strike Down Proposition 8

The Obama Administration will be getting involved in the Supreme Court battle surrounding Proposition 8.

NBC News reports that the Justice Department will file a friend-of-the-courts brief urging the Supreme Court to allow same-sex marriages to resume in California.

Thought the White House initially said they would not get involved in the case, it seems they’ve changed their mind.

GLAAD Congratulates Jet Magazine on Featuring Same-Sex Wedding

GLAAD (The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) took a moment to congratulate Jet Magazine for featuring a same-sex marriage in its wedding section:

As part of our year-round work to raise visibility of LGBT people of color in the media and to grow acceptance of LGBT people in these communities, GLAAD worked closely with Ravi and Paris to help them shape their story and also worked with JET to feature the couple.

Democratic National Convention Adds Marriage Equality to Platform

The Democratic National Convention has confirmed its intention to include marriage equality as part of its platform.

Congressman Barney Frank shared the news:

I want you to be one of the first to know: After a unanimous decision on Sunday, the drafting committee for the Democratic National Convention embraced marriage equality as part of our platform for the 2012 Convention.
