Not even a week after a Maryland student was reprimanded for bringing a Confederate flag to school property, two more students have committed the same offense. A photo circling the Internet shows students at Glenelg High School raising the Confederate flag at the school’s football game last Friday.

  A Massachusetts school teacher was placed on administrative leave after authorities discovered he’d authored two books that described school killings. Earlier this month, the Dorchester County Board of Education was alerted that eighth grade language arts teacher Patrick McLaw had several aliases, which he published the books under.

  The unrest in Ferguson has prompted a neighboring school to ban conversation on the events happening in the small St. Louis suburb. Edwardsville Superintendent Ed Hightower said the school banned talks about Ferguson and Michael Brown due to safety concerns. 

  Two members of The Black Youth Project 100’s (BYP100) Chicago Chapter spoke with NPR’s Frederica Boswell about how the events in Ferguson moved them, and what they hope might come from this historical moment. 

    Dozens of Chicago Public School students rallied downtown Monday to demand an elected board of education. More than 200 students are part of the Chicago Students Union, which was formed in 2013. But students say the board refuses to listen to them. 

Missouri governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency and imposed an overnight curfew in Ferguson over the weekend. The move is an attempt to quell disturbances that have shaken up the city since a Ferguson police officer fatally shot an unarmed black teenager. 

The Chicago Housing Authority is scaling back on its controversial program that allowed some low income renters to live in several of Chicago’s priciest downtown high rises. Recipients of the authority’s “super vouchers” were able to live in luxury apartments such as the plush Aqua Tower and the high-end Streeter apartment buildings in downtown Chicago.
