National Museum of African Art receives $1.8M gift from Oman
The National Museum of African Art has received the largest donation in its history. Oman, a country of 4 million located on the southwest coast of the Arabian Peninsula, donated $1.8 million to the museum.
The gift announced Wednesday will fund a series of programs called “Connecting the Gems of the Indian Ocean: From Oman to East Africa.” It will focus on Omani arts and culture and the links between cultures in East and North Africa and the Middle East.
Curators of the museum hailed the gift as a significant milestone. The National Museum of African Art will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
