Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera is under fire after asserting that Trayvon Martin’s hoodie is as much to blame for his death as George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain who pulled the trigger.

At 8:10pm last night, Rivera sent out a tweet that said “His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman.”

And he didn’t stop there, folks. Rivera took to the air and let out an offensive and totally ridiculous rant that blamed the victim rather than the perpetrator of racism and violence.

From NewsOne:

“On Fox News, Geraldo also said, ‘I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was. You have to recognize that this whole stylizing yourself as a gangsta — you’re going to be a gangsta wannabe, well people are going to perceive you as a menace. That’s what happens. It is an instant, reflexive action.’

But he didn’t stop there. Oh, yes, it gets worse.

‘When you see a Black or Latino, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street to avoid that confrontation. Trayvon Martin, God bless him, an innocent kid, a wonderful kid, a box of Skittles in his hand, he didn’t deserve to die, but I’ll bet you money that if he didn’t have that hoodie on that nutty neighborhood watch guy wouldn’t have responded in that violent and aggressive way.'”

It’s really a waste of time to humor such boneheaded statements. But for the record, it was raining outside on the night of Trayvon Martin’s death; he was not trying for the whole “stylizing yourself as a gangsta” thing, Mr. Rivera. He was simply walking home.

He was just minding his own business.

And maybe if George Zimmerman had done the same, Trayvon Martin would still be here.

Do you agree with Geraldo Rivera’s statements?
