Get ready superhero fans. Word on the digital streets is that Black Lightning could be getting his own series in the Berlanti-verse, which is currently the home of  the CW’s ArrowFlash, and Supergirl. To make things even better, the black power couple that is Salim and Mara Brock Akil are currently attached to the project after bringing us much beloved shows such as GirlfriendsThe Game and Being Mary Jane, according to The Verge.

Black Lightning was one of the first headlining black superheroes readers got to experience. With his ability to manipulate electricity, the blaxploitation era character went on to become part of the highly esteemed Justice League – the best superhero collective, for the record – and has made steady, but small, appearances throughout DC Comics properties over recent years.

Given that he has two super dope and super-powered daughters of his own, it would be great if the series would be a family drama and depict a black hero with a healthy family dynamic, which we could always use more of. It would also be a great opportunity to re-introduce more heroes of color that have gotten buried among the crowd of DC’s dozens of characters.

I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping for a Static Shock cameo of sorts, since his cartoon was so influential for a generation of black nerds like myself and Black Lightning is a perfect mentor for young Virgil.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any details about the series come forth.
