For those who aren’t as deep into the nerd space as others, Netflix is preparing to release a new Marvel series later this month based on the character of Iron Fist. According to the source material, Iron Fist is about a young man named Danny Rand who travels to a fictional Asian country, learns their sacred martial arts and somehow becomes the best at them, then comes back to the United States to fight evil and corruption.

So, what’s the problem here? Well, Danny Rand is white and that doesn’t sit well with a lot of fans.

Marvel’s Luke Cage Gets Renewed For Season 2

Netflix and Marvel are running a victory lap side-by-side after all of the success their co-productions. Both seasons of Daredevil have been widely successful, as has the first season of Jessica Jones. Next up in the lineup is Luke Cage, which will premiere on Sept. 30, starring Mike Colter.

An initial teaser showed Luke putting the abilities he was given as the world’s first bullet-proof black man to the test with ODB playing in the background.  Today, Netflix released a full trailer that’s even better than the first one. 

‘Dear White People’ Comes to Netflix

On May 5, all Dear White People enthusiasts received some very exciting news about the changes coming to the franchise. The movie is being turned into a show for Netflix.

Netflix has ordered a TV adaptation of the Justin Simien 2014 comedy for a 2017 release date. Similar to the film, the Netflix series will chart the lives of a group of students of color who deal with adult problems associated with race, privilege, and power at a fictional Ivy League university.

A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad Will Be Co-Scoring Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ Series

Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones series’ have both proven to be huge successes for both the comic book company and Netflix, who plays them on its streaming service. Next up to help round out “The Defenders” stable will be Luke Cage, the bulletproof, super-strength wielding resident of Harlem who’s already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While the introduction of the Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War has fans of black comic book characters fainting from anticipation, Luke Cage’s Netflix show will help make it a two-sided effort on the smaller screen. But now fans have something else to get excited about. It’s been announced that A Tribe Called Quest will be scoring the series.
