Yes, The Wire is one of the best pieces of entertainment ever created. It’s also a fact that it was created by a white man. But even producing a highly entertaining crime drama doesn’t give someone a pass to casually throw the n-word around. Unfortunately, David Simon thought so.

This week, Simon tweeted in response to the idea of Sean Hannity hosting a speech where Donald Trump will try to appeal to black voters.

“Hannity my n—a!” Simon tweeted. “If they couldn’t get a Ta-Nehisi or Deray to host, then who but you on the pulse of black America.”

As expected, the conversation quickly shifted from Hannity’s involvement to Simon’s use of the word. Especially after he tried to justify his use of it.

Just let this be a reminder to allies everywhere, there’s always a line that shouldn’t be crossed.
